Fall 2007 U14 Boys

Roger Erb 2007 Tournament 4th place!

U14 Boys finished 4th in tournament (that’s the short version).

It was actually a heartbreaker for the team in a number of ways.  We ended the 1st game w/ a 0-0 tie after a 2nd half goal was called back for offsides. That gave us 1 point for a tie game instead of 4 points for a win & shutout.  Those extra 3 points would have placed us into the championship match, as we won our 2nd game 2-0 (4 points), but lost our 3rd game 2-3 (0 points) for an overall point total of 5 instead of 8.  I believe the 2 teams that advanced to the championship game had earned 8 and 10 points.

After our 3rd and last game at 1PM, our 5 points was good enough to put us in 3rd place, but it didn’t look good with 5 match-ups left to be played and some teams in a easy position to clearly advance to the top 3 finishes.  However, after 4 of those matches were completed, we still held 3rd place over 2 other teams that finished w/ 5 points since we beat them head-to-head.  It all came down to the last match-up of the afternoon to determine if we would place 3rd or 4th.  Our whole team stayed to root on the home team from MUSC in their match over Harleysville.  MUSC had no chance to place in the top 3 finishes but if they beat or tied Harleysville that would have sealed us a 3rd place finish, and Harleysville would have taken 4th.  MUSC was down by 1 point halfway thru the 2nd half when to our disbelief not 1 but 2 goals scored by MUSC in the last 2 minutes were called back due to offsides. If either of those 2 goals would have counted, we would have retained 3rd place.

Anyhow, the boys did a great job representing the league in a fun tournament event. They played hard and hung in there as a team, and had fun watching the results of other games and how it affected our ultimate outcome.  Unfortunately luck was not on our side on Saturday.  They deserved to finish in the top 2, and played like a championship team!
