A Grade 9 Referee license allows a referee to officiate U-14 & younger recreation games and be an assistant referee for U-14 & younger travel league games. A Grade 8 referee license permits a referee to cover any youth game (travel or recreation) as a center referee or assistant, at the discretion of a referee assignor. The Grade 8 Referee license is high level then the Grade 9 referee license. Both license classifications are based on the USSF Referee Grade scale & have noting to do with a candidates school grade.
