The Hurricanes faced a tough opponent in Saturday’s exciting, physical game against the Ridley Park River Dawgs at Delacy Park. Although the weather cleared for the game, rain prior to the start of play made the field slippery, contributing to lots of slips and falls.

There was much outstanding play of note. Matt Pope revealed his expertise as a passer and playmaker. Alex Kemmler had some great offensive moves and gave us a look at what we hope will be a staple Hurricanes play with a turnaround pass to an open man at net. Bret LePard also supplied lots of offensive excitement with numerous shots on goal, one with his nondominant foot. Colin Neilon always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, helping the Hurricanes control the midfield. Andrew Brightbill and Kyle Leidheiser expertly alternated duty at left back and midfielder and had several key defensive plays, while Connor Battilana’s last-second save at the goal line elicited cheers of relief from the bleachers.

While the Hurricanes controlled play for most of the game, had more shots on goal than their opponent, and appeared to be the better team, alas, the River Dawgs were able to score a goal late in the second half while holding off the Hurricanes’ continued onslaught. The final score was 1-0.
