Liverpool Ties Hurricanes in Last Minute of Play
The Hurricanes tied 1-1 against Liverpool in a heartbreaker of a game on Saturday, October 14. WCUSC started well, with Jimmy Scorzetti scoring 17 minutes into the game off a set play from Tyler Marraffa. The rest of the first half revealed a united team effort. Goalie Tyler Zarr, who had a game total of 11 saves, had the support of Will Mau and Colin Neilon’s accurate head balls. Mau made a particularly nice driving kick to save a potential goal. Jerry Baldino, Mark Butte, and Matt Pope revealed brave dribbling through an aggressive Liverpool defense, and birthday player Andrew Brightball’s new cleats had him settling the ball nicely. In addition, Ryan Fogel showcased solid ball control, and Ryan Kirkman supported the offensive effort with crosses downfield and several steals. The stellar Hurricane offense had 11 shots on goal, eight of them in the second half, shot into the sun. However, with less than a minute left in the second half, Liverpool scored to tie the game, giving the Hurricanes no time to recover. Coaches Kemmler and Zarr deserve extra kudos for keeping the boys grounded in a game where frustrations ran high. The Hurricanes fought hard; things look bright for future games.
