2008 Game Highlights (archives)

September 20 vs. Southern Chester County (T 2-2)

September 13 vs. Parkland Soccer Club (L 0-3)

The 13th of September proved unlucky for West Chester’s Eagles, as they took a 3-0 loss from Parkland Soccer Club.  Parkland  showed up with some large players and came out with an aggressive game, jumping out to a 1 goal lead a minute into the game.  Then, about midway through the half, a questionable call went Parkland’s way, giving them a Penalty Kick which went high.  Later in the half, Parkland got another PK opportunity, which gave them their second goal.

The Eagles fought hard, but had difficulty controlling play for long into Parkland’s end of the field.  The hard fight also took out a few West Chester players with injuries for periods during the game, with Zach, Luke, and Justin sidelined. Luke and Justin healed enough to make it back in, and as of Sunday, Zach is recovering with a positive prognosis.  The Eagles held off Parkland for most of the second half with one more goal scored late in the game, leaving the final at 3-0.

September 6 vs. Spirit United Hurricanes (W 2-0)

Tropical Storm Hanna and the Spirit Hurricanes were no match for the West Chester United Eagles today, as they slid their way through steady rain during the second half, to find the net twice and come away with a victory for their first game of the season.  The rains held off for the first half of the game, during which the Eagles largely controlled the action on the field.  But the Hurricanes held West Chester off for the entire half, entering half time even at 0.  As the rains picked up following half time, the players experienced plenty of grass-slides and physical contact.  Spirit continued to hold the Eagles scoreless until 6 minutes remained in the second half, when D drove the ball through heavy traffic into the ’canes right side corner, then lofted the ball to John who was perfectly positioned to bend over and head the ball into the net for the Eagles’ first goal.

Around 2 minutes later, Justin came head to head with the Spirit goalie, knocking the ball loose, but play was stopped just before the ball entered the net, with a foul against Spirit, giving West Chester a free kick.  Cal made a beastly kick, blasting the ball in just under the cross-bar, where the ’canes’ keeper punched, but could not stop the ball from becoming West Chester’s second goal, for their first 2008 regular season victory.  Go Eagles!
