WCUSC SHARKS WIN RED ROSE CLASSIC
The West Chester United U11G3 Sharks won the blue division of the Red Rose Classic on May 5 and 6 in Lancaster, PA winning the final game via penalty kicks 3-2.. The Sharks completed the championship qualifying games with a record of 2-1. The Sharks beat Lititz 1-0 and the Lower Merion Attack 6-1 and lost to our neighbors, GCVSA Twisters 2-1. As luck would have it, the Sharks had to play the Twisters for the championship. To that point the Twister were 3-0 outscoring their opponents 12-1. The Championship game turned into a defensive battle with the Twisters pounding the ball deep and the Sharks finding ways to clear the zone and counter attack. The game ended 0-0 and went to penalty kicks to decide the winner. This was a huge upset victory for the Sharks as the Twisters compete very successfully several Divisions above the Sharks in PAGS league play. This capped a very successful season for the all rookie U11 travel team SHARKS whose outdoor record is 16-5-3 with two tournament wins and tournament finalist.
(April 1, 2007) The West Chester United U11 Sharks started the Spring Outdoor Season by winning the Hockessin Spring Classic on Sunday April 1. The Sharks finished the competition with 2 wins and a tie and won the Group 1 championship based on points on the strength of two shutout wins. The Sharks began play with a tie against the HSC Storm. This was followed by a pair of 3-0 wins against the Methacton United Strikers and the HSC Flash. All of these teams played in stronger Divisions during the PAGS fall season so this was a great way to measure the progress of the Sharks during our first season. The Sharks played their typical strong defensive game throughout the tournament and began to execute an effective passing attack at Midfield and in the offensive zone that lead to many goal scoring chances. As always a successful tournament is not complete without some fun and I think the pictures tell the story of a great day in Hockessin for the West Chester United Sharks.
