-- Many kids in the United States grow up aspiring to be a professional athlete, a select few are able to beat the odds. Oscar Umar, former WCUSC NPSL Player, faced some of the most difcult odds one could imagine growing up in the poverty stricken village of Tamale, Ghana. Umar used his love of soccer as motivation to earn a spot in the Right to Dream soccer academy in Accra, Ghana at age eight then receiving his visa to continue his education and soccer training in the United States in 2008. After playing four years at Villanova on college scholarship, Umar accomplished his dream by signing his rst professional contract with the Richmond Kickers in 2017. He will be in the starting 11 for Kickers' head coach Leigh Cowlishaw when they host their 26th home opener at City Stadium against USL opponent Indy Eleven.
