Team Accomplishments

2007 Dillsburg Shootout Finalist

Congratulations to the Blizzard for their hard earned Finalist finish in the Dillsburg Shootout Tournament.  After three qualifying games, the girls earned the #1 seed in the 2nd Division.  In the Championship round, the girls started off with a win against HMMS on Saturday afternoon, but lost to a good Triboro side 1-0 on Sunday morning.  Facing elimination with a second loss, the Blizzard won their next three games against Carlisle, BYC, and Hempfield (the same Hempfield team that defeated the Blizzard in the Dillsburg Shootout finals in 2005) to make it to the finals.  The finals pitted the Blizzard (in their third straight game without a break) against the Triboro team they faced earlier in the day.  At half time, the game was tied 0-0, but the grueling tournament schedule took it’s toll in the second half and the girls could not find a way to keep even with Triboro.

WCUSC U13G3 Blizzard, "Shoot for the Cure" Champions

The WCUSC Blizzard ’93 are the U13 Silver Division Champions of the 2007 Montgomery United "Shoot for the Cure" Tournament.  The Blizzard displayed both heart and team play in battling through an extremely competitive bracket to take home the gold.

2005 Ridley Invitational Tournament Champions

(August 17, 2005) In their opening game, the Blizzard ’93 started slowly in the first half against a tough Upper Darby side, but then came on strong. Despite pounding the Blue Storm net in the second half, including at least one shot off the post, they were unable to put one by and had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Needing a shutout victory against Lenape United in the second pool game, the defense anchored by Megan D, Jenna L and Allie T was again rock solid. This time persistence paid off on the attack as Lauren F connected on a well-timed shot inside the far post for a 1-0 victory and the top spot in their pool. This alone was quite an accomplishment as the team had to play two games in the space of only three hours under extreme conditions (temperature in the high 90’s with a heat index approaching 110°). The midfield tandem of Jordan L, Alyssa K, Meg B and Julia P had an especially difficult task, but came through with a spirited effort.

The Blizzard were determined to take care of business against the Chichester Blue Monkeys in the final.  After a number of close misses, the girls got on the board early with Alyssa K providing a strong finish on a beautifully crossed ball from Domi B.  Domi then got one of her own on a hard shot off a rebound to extend the lead to 2-0 at the half.  The girls kept the pressure on after the break, and Emma C assured the victory with a perfectly placed goal just inside the far post.  The dominating play from the stoppers (Maggie D, Mich M, Gabby E and Molly M) was a huge factor in the 3-0 victory and a clean sheet on the day.

In short, a total team effort was needed to persevere the conditions and solid competition.  Congratulations to the Blizzard for their hard work and a well-deserved championship!
